Assessing a teacher’s competence for implementation of inquiry based mathematics education from a discussion of open geometrical situations
Roubíček, Filip
The study is focused on the possibility to assess and develop primary teachers’ abilities to implement some principles of inquiry based mathematics education into their teaching practice. The requirements on a primary teacher and their competence are assessed through a joint discussion of open geometrical situations presented through Concept Cartoons. Teachers’ written comments and notes and verbal statements expressed in the discussion of four geometrical problems were analysed and presented.
Rediscovering of geometrical constructions
Roubíček, Filip
The paper deals with the application of principles of inquiry based mathematics education in seminars of didactics for future primary school teachers, specifically with the activity focused on construction of known geometrical figures in the environment of folding paper. Seven students´ construction procedures of a square are presented in the paper.
Inquiry based activities in geometry
Roubíček, Filip
The paper deals with opportunities to use inquiry based activities in the teaching of geometry at primary or secondary school. It describes proposals of geometrical activities which lead pupils to experimentation, presentation of findings and their verification and discussion. The environments are illustrated by modelling of symmetrical ornaments, geometrical patterns, polygons and polyhedrons.
Representation of isometries
Roubíček, Filip
The paper deals with basic isometries in plane from the point view of the teaching of geometry at primary school. It concentrates on line reflection, point reflection, rotation and translation. It refers to necessity to represent principles of isometries as a process by means of various models. It describes some methods of representation of isometries by mirror reflection, folding and cutting, printing, composing and using dynamic geometry. The methods are illustrated by creation of geometrical ornaments and patterns.
